Nook Color: The Greatest E-Reading Experience

Many people nowadays prefer to read their novels or academic articles through the computer. These documents, also called ebooks, are beginning to be very popular because of the fact that they are less space-consuming, given that they are stored inside a computer's hard disk. They too are portable because they can be easily saved on a small storage device and then brought anywhere.

And because of the continuing popularity of e-books, gadgets dedicated to reading ebooks (or "ereading") have been developed. One of the most popular models of ereaders is the Nook Color.

This brilliant ereader is a great addition to Barnes and Noble's set of ereaders which garnered the Editor's Choice from CNet in November last year. It features a 7-inch VividView™ Color Touchscreen which displays about 16 million colors in high resolution. Its extra wide viewing angle is made possible by the IPS Display, giving users a viewing angle of 178 degrees, which makes sharing more enjoyable. The screen produces less glare and optimizes brightness for convenient reading and viewing. Another feature of this ereader is that it gives the user the option of viewing books or magazines in either portrait or landscape view.

Personalization of the Nook Color is also possible. Its digital bookshelves can be organized and ebooks can easily be located and grouped according to different categories. The home screen is customizable too—one can drag and drop into the home screen the ebooks or applications that the user wants to get instant access to every time he opens his Nook Color. Also, the home screen's background can be decorated with a favorite photo or with wallpapers pre-installed on the device.

The best thing about tablets nowadays is that most are already WiFi-enabled. And because it has such a feature, users can connect to the Internet and use the Nook Color to check and send their e-mails, view YouTube videos, or even do light browsing.

The Nook Color runs on an operating system that is a modified version of Android 2.2. Although considered a great Android tablet, it does not have the typical layout found in Android tablets. To transform the Nook tablet into a full-featured Android tablet, there are guides on the Internet on how to root Nook Color, and one can even integrate it with the Android 3.0 (codenamed Honeycomb) using a bootable Honeycomb ROM. If you're interesting in modding your Nook Color this way, check out the safest premade SD boot kits available at online retailers linked to in the resource box below.

All in all, Nook Color may not bring all the features more expensive tablets may give, but it would definitely give any one a great ereading experience.
